Departure Lounge Collective is celebrating 15 years of experimental and improvised music making. In November 2001, James E Stephenson and Paul J Abbott (aka Mr WobblyHead) started the collective as undergraduates at the University of York, selling out their first concerts at Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall and then the National Centre for Early Music on the same day.

Ever since, they have been delighting audiences throughout the UK with their unique and engaging approach to music. For this special birthday concert, 15 years to the day since their first performances they will be joined by musical friends old and new for an exhuberant and beautiful celebration in the stunning of environment of Holy Trinity Church.

Departure Lounge has always stood out among improvisation groups for its attention to the needs of the audience, while continuing to push at the boundaries of musical invention. From soaring melodies to pulsing rhythmic experiments, expect to go on a special journey as the Departure Lounge return to their roots.

The current line-up includes voice, oboe, flute, percussion, live electronics, electric guitars and synthesizers to create a fascinating world of musical invention in which the constraints of genre are ignored.

    Performers:
    James E Stephenson: oboe, synths
Paul J Abbott: voice, electric guitar, live electronics, synths
    Laura Kox: bass flute
    Alexandros Pepelasis: percussion.

    About the Arts@Trinity Flute Choir:

Founded by Laura Kox after graduating from Leeds College of Music Masters of Music Performance course in January 2015 this ensemble has grown from only 5 members in the beginning to now being one of the biggest in the country. Consisting of professional flautists as well as flute students from all over town to amateures that want to pick up playing the flute again the participants come from as far as Derby, York, Sheffield and Harrogate and have established themselves playing at various events throughout the 2 years and putting on 2 of their own concerts a year inviting soloists and other groups to join them. They have a resident composer in Simon Cummings and invite other composers to come forward and write pieces for them.

After supporting Maggie's by doing a little performance at this year's Culture Crawl we are very glad to be able to support them again, this time with a full concert.
